Davis Headed to Northeastern

Although the commitment happened some time ago, one player in the Class of 2003 who made an early decision was 6-8, 210 pound power forward Bennett Davis of Milford Academy in Connecticut.
Davis, who now lives in Miami, is headed to Northeastern University in Boston next fall. Although he has fielded calls from schools such as Virginia Tech and George Washington since his commitment, Davis said he plans on signing with Northeastern in November.

"I like the computer animation program at Northeastern, and that's the major I plan on studying in college," Davis said. "There's also a good chance to get a lot of playing time there as a freshman, and I know many of the players that are there."
That comes as little surprise, since current Northeastern Asst. Coach Frank Martin has reached back to his Miami roots to snag several players for the Huskies out of the South Florida area. Martin was at one time the head coach of the famed Miami Senior H.S. program, which produced several top Division I players during his tenure.
A native of Freeport, Bahamas, Davis moved to the United States a few years back and enrolled at Northwest Christian H.S. in Miami. He left that school and enrolled at Milford last year.
Davis should be one of the better big men in the prep school ranks this winter. His mobility, skills and athleticism provide a nice contrast to the strength and power game of teammate Lamont Hamilton, who committed to St. John's in the spring.
At the Bob Gibbons Memorial Day Classic in May, Davis played well when we watched him with the Miami Tropics squad. He showed an ability to face the basket and knock down the short-midrange jumper with consistency, on top of being long, mobile and athletic.
Davis will need to continue working on his upper body strength for the rigors of the Division I level, but there's little doubt he could become an impact player in the America East Conference.
Rivalshoops.com plans on catching Milford Academy in action several times this winter, so we will keep you posted on Davis' progress in the months to come.
