Aurora (Colo.) Overland power forward De'Ron Davis had a great summer playing with the Colorado Hawks on the travel circuit. With that success, he has seen increased recruiting attention from schools in all parts of the country. He says he's in contact regularly with Indiana, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Wake Forest and most recently North Carolina.
Davis has only taken one unofficial visit this year and that went to Colorado. He sees the Buffaloes as a program on the rise.
"They have a pretty good program," Davis said. "I like their coaching staff. The facilities are nice. They are rebuilding a lot of them. They have been doing better lately. They don't get too far in the tournament, but they will soon."
Davis likes the work Tom Crean and his Indiana staff have done developing players and sending them to the NBA.
"They have a good program. In the last few years, they have had three top 10 picks in the NBA Draft."
Under Sean Miller, Arizona has done a great job reeling in top recruits in Pac-12 country such as Davis, who currently ranks 33rd in the 2016 Rivals150. The Wildcats have been heavily involved with the four-star prospect in recent months.
"Arizona is also pretty good," Davis said. "They always make it pretty deep in the tournament. They develop their bigs pretty well. I like their style of play too."
Wake Forest will always be an attractive option for top post players around the country as long as Danny Manning is the head coach. Not only was he a great post player himself, but he helped develop several really good post players during his stint as an assistant coach at Kansas.
"I really like the coach they have up there," Davis said. "He's worked with a lot of really good big men. He knows what it takes to get them to the next level."
Right now, Davis says two schools have the early edge in his recruitment.
"Arizona and Indiana, those two schools really stand out to me right now just because of how they recruit me and how they are when they come visit me."
Don't expect Davis to come to a decision on where he'll play college basketball any time soon.
"I don't know for sure when I'll make a decision, but I know I'll cut my list down to five around this time next year. I'll probably decide after the season. I'm looking for somewhere that I can develop and get me ready for the next level."
