David Bell Still Open

MIDDLE ISLAND, NEW YORK -- David Bell, a 6-7, 185 pound small forward/swingman from Mt. Zion Christian Academy in Durham, N.C., scored eight points in his team's loss to Celestial Prep on Saturday night. It was Bell's first appearance at the game.
Providence College was on hand this past weekend along with St. John's, East Carolina, Massachusetts, and Boston College to take a peek at some of the talent on hand at the Rim Rocker tournament. But Bell missed the first two days of the event so he was not evaluated by some programs.

There are other programs that are monitoring Bell, including the Syracuse Orangemen. Syracuse is confident that Carmelo Anthony will play at least one season for the Orangemen but they are aware that Bell is still open and available.
Bell heard during the summer from Seton Hall, New Mexico, Kansas, Syracuse, Villanova, Miami, Oklahoma, LaSalle, George Washington, and Kansas St. It's likely that he would have several schools interested in him if he got his academics straightened out.
This is where the question marks surface. Does a school take a chance and offer and hope that Bell qualifies? Right now it's not likely.
One of the factors that makes Bell such an intriguing prospect is his ability to face the basket and put the ball on the floor at his height. We have watched him many times over the past two years, and he has displayed an ability to play positions one through three on the basketball court.
Bell told us after the game he was open and was only focusing on his academic situation. It's likely that Bell's situation won't be resolved until the late spring or early summer.
