Daryl Jacobs To Redshirt

Daryl Jacobs, a 6-10, 220 pound center who is attending Cochise J.C. in Douglas, Ariz., will redshirt this year at the Arizona junior college.
JUCO Junction caught up with Cochise Head Coach Jerry Carrillo at the ACCAC Jamboree at Scottsdale C.C. in Arizona last week.

"Daryl Jacobs is here with us but we are going to redshirt him this year," Carrillo said. "We are hopefully going to play him next year and then he'll got to Pittsburgh. That's the plan right now. He needs to shore up his academics but he is a great kid to work with."
Jacobs attended Traditional H.S. in Buffalo before heading off to Cochise this fall. News reports last spring had Jacobs headed to Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield, Me., after he gave Pittsburgh a verbal commitment.
However, it's not a big shock that Jacobs would resurface in Arizona, as Pitt Head Coach Ben Howland still has many connections in the Grand Canyon State. Before coming to Pitt, Howland rebuilt the Northern Arizona program.
If Jacobs sits out this year and is able to complete his junior college degree requirements by the spring or summer of 2003, he might be able to enroll at Pitt with three years of eligibility.
Should anything change regarding Jacobs' status in the coming weeks or months, JUCO Junction will let you know. So stay tuned!
