Cumberland is a high scorer

THE RIVALS150: 2015 | 2016

Watch four-star Jarron Cumberland play and he doesn't jump out at you as a guy who will be playing on the wing. Once the ball is in the rising senior's hands, though, he proves that he belongs out there.
Standing 6-foot-4, the Wilmington (Ohio) High star is built much more like a linebacker or tight end prospect than a shooting guard. He checks in at a burly 215 pounds and has the type of strength that you don't usually see in a high school shooting guard.
Ranked No. 64 in the 2016 Rivals150, Cumberland isn't a high flyer, but he is highly skilled on the offensive end to go along with being tough.
"When I'm driving and knocking down my threes I feel like I have a versatile in and out game," said Cumberland. "I need to work on my defense big time. I need to work on my dribbling more and my mid range."
Earlier this spring, Cumberland switched grassroots programs. After playing for a while with the Ohio Basketball Club on the Adidas circuit he made the move to the King James team in Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League. He's averaged 17.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game with his new squad and feels like the switch was a good one.
"I think it was a good decision," said Cumberland. "The adjustment is playing with a new team and making sure that I bring my A game every time."
To date, Cumberland lists scholarship offers from Purdue, Xavier, Butler, Cincinnati and Florida State. Recently he's added interest from Michigan, Texas, Indiana, Wake Forest and Nevada. He's seen Cincinnati, Purdue and Butler unofficially and says what college programs want from him on the next level is real simple.
"Coaches all want me to score."
Cumberland says that he would like to look into setting up an unofficial visit to Michigan in the near future but outside of that he's not paid much attention to his recruitment.
"I haven't really thought about it that much," said Cumberland. "Probably starting before basketball season I will think about it more. When I make my decision it will be about playing style and if I like the coach or not."
