GARDEN GROVE, Calif. -- On Memorial Day Weekend, Southern California is the epicenter of grassroots basketball as Nike, Under Armour and the Compton Magic from the Adidas circuit host major tournaments. Friday night at the Chris Paul sponsored CP3/MADE Hoops Memorial Day Classic, Nike showcased their top 15 and 16U teams and class of 2020 wing Scott Barnes emerged as a potentially elite player.

BARNES COULD BE THE NEXT BIG TIME TALENT OUT OF FLORIDA

Clearly, class of 2020 standout Scott Barnes is still in the very early stages of his development. But, standing 6-foot-7 with outstanding body control, a high basketball IQ and way above average passing ability, Barnes might be the next big time prospect out of the state of Florida.

Playing for Nike Team Florida's 15U team, Barnes was all over the floor. He handled the ball, he cleared the glass and he hit on a promising looking corner three ball. What really stood out was the poise and patience he has for making the right play at 15 years old.

"I think I'm kind of like a point forward," Barnes told Rivals.com. "I don't know where (feel for the game) comes from for me, I think it's just natural."

Also natural in today's era of early offers is that Barnes has already landed scholarships from UCF, Florida and Miami. If Friday night was any kind of glimpse into the future, expect many more to follow suit.

2020'S STRAWTHER ALREADY HOLDS SIX OFFERS

We first saw class of 2020 wing Julian Strawther playing as an 8th grader in a Las Vegas area showcase and he impressed with size and driving ability. Now finishing up his freshman year at Las Vegas (Nev.) Liberty, Strawther has grown to 6-foot-6 and is still an impressive prospect.

In addition to his size, Strawther has good strength and is a fine athlete who knows how to use his body and athleticism to get to the cup. He wasn't dominant in California United 16U's win over the Mac Irvin Fire, but he was a key contributor and looked to belong playing up an age group.

Strawther -- whose older sister Paris Strawther plays at UNLV -- is going to be one to watch and has already landed an impressive haul of scholarship offers.

"I have six offers right now," said Strawther. "Florida State, UNLV, USC, Creighton, Washington and Fresno State have offered."

KANSAS COMMIT JACOBS GOES BIG, MORE FRIDAY NOTABLES

Markese Jacobs

* This was the breakout game that Kansas committed four-star point guard Markese Jacobs needed. His Mac Irvin Fire 16U squad lost to California United on a buzzer beater, but not without Jacobs doing his best Nate Robinson impersonation. A true high flyer with strength at just 5-foot-10 (and that could be generous), Jacobs went wild in the second half scoring 21 points on a series of drives, jump shots and one very loud windmill dunk. We have seen Jacobs multiple times this spring and Friday was far and away his best performance.

* A teammate of Jacobs on the Fire, Chicago (Ill.) Simeon's three-star point guard Kejuan Clements held things down in the first half. Like Jacobs, Clements isn't the tallest point guard but he is physically strong, tough and a playmaker off the dribble. Coming from a winning high school program and a loaded summer program, he'll end up with lots of Division one offers.

* It was hard to miss power forward Darren Jones of California United. Athletic, long and fast, Jones was playing at warp speed and made a lot of nice things happen thanks to his hustle. He might be sped up a little at times, but his effort is tremendous. Jones is also a high level football player and already holds offers from Utah and Nevada as a wide receiver prospect.

* The Family's 16U team got handled pretty well by California Supreme and Romeo Weems didn't have a huge night, but it's clear that he's a high major prospect who is bordering on elite. Pushing 6-foot-7, Weems has long arms, broad shoulders and is an explosive athlete who plays a power wing game. A top 20 prospect in the class of 2019, Weems' most recent offer came from Missouri. Creighton, Iowa and Michigan State among others have also offered.

* Now back in California after moving to Wisconsin, 6-foot-9 post man Antwan January of Cal Supreme's 16U squad is a high major athlete. He's strong, he runs well and is a good athlete. January had some nice plays on the glass and as a rim protector who finishes strong at the hoop when he gets touches near the rim.

* We took a second look at 2019 big man Carl Lewis of the Paul Pierce sponsored Team Truth 16U team and he is clearly a high major prospect. A well built 6-foot-9 center who plays a power game, Lewis surprises you with his quickness off the floor and he has the touch to make jumpers from 15 to 20 feet.

* He's not yet hugely productive, but 2019 power forward Daniel Ramsey of the Georgia Stars 16U team has huge upside. He's a long striding big man with bounce, quickness and a basketball frame that will easily carry more weight without him losing agility. He looks like a high major all the way and it's not a surprise that Kansas State, Georgia Tech and North Florida have already offered.

* He will be a freshman in the fall, but 8th grader Kamryn Waites of RM5's 15U team is hard to miss. Known as Baby Shaq around his hometown of Dallas and standing at least 6-foot-8 while weighing in at a reported 270 pounds, he's massive and he looks like Orlando Pace. Waites isn't just big, he has some pretty advanced low post game for such a young player. He has soft hands, can finish with his right and left and looked good on a jump hook and making some high level reads and passes out of double teams in the post.
