Cortez Davis (right), the 6-7, 190 pound small forward from the Washington-DC area, may not be attending Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.
It appears that the rigid system at Hargrave was not suitable to Davis. Davis attended Bridgton Academy last year and appeared ready to play for Mike Preston and the Hargrave program. But at Hargrave, you do things their way or you take the highway.
Davis discussed his recruiting with the Insiders Report just last week. Davis, who had given a verbal commitment to nearby Maryland on June 21st but recinded that decision later, said the schools he's now considering are Miami, Florida State, Villanova and Texas. However, Villanova has landed Curtis Sumpter since then.
"I think I was rushing into the decision," Davis said. Asked if Maryland was still involved, he said, "Yes."
Schools that Davis had considered when he choose Maryland were Kentucky, Texas, Miami, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Villanova and Rutgers. Last fall he had been recruited by George Washington and Rhode Island before the coaching changes at those schools.
Davis, who finished his four year of high school at Bridgton Academy in Maine this spring.
Davis played this summer with the Potomac Valley Blue Devils. He attended the Nike Invitational in Indianapolis in July.
He needs to raise his SAT score to meet NCAA standards. Davis is a proficient slasher who often presents matchup problems for opponents due to his height and quickness.
