Cooks headed to Conference USA

One of the better big men left in the class of 2007 is no longer open. Genesis One forward Brandon Cooks committed to a Conference USA program on Tuesday night.
The 6-foot-7 forward committed to Southern Miss after looking at a handful of programs, according to Genesis One coach Victor Evans.

"I think he felt like the closeness to his (Louisiana) home and his parents can come and see him play. Plus, the fact that it is in the Conference USA, which is a great conference. It's a good fit for him and he went to a couple of games and loved the environment there," Evans said.
"They are an up and coming program and they are building that place up. They need players like Brandon in order to compete. In order to increase their talent base, they are signing better players and winning ball games."
Cooks has been solid for Genesis One this year and should project well for Southern Miss because of his athleticism and ability to do a number of things on the floor.
"He's so versatile. The number one thing with him is that he can play two or three positions," Evans said. "His rebounding and his size are going to help and he can defend the two or three or four spots. He's a multi-dimensional guy."
Evans said Cooks also considered Wyoming and Fresno State. Cooks will sign in April but has "two classes he still needs to buckle down in," says Evans, before he suits up for Southern Miss.
