Cookie Takes Bite out of Coastal Christian

MILFORD, Del. -- New Hampton's Mike Cook also goes by the nickname "Cookie," but on Saturday morning at the War on the Shore, it was Cook who was doing all of the biting.
Cook enjoyed a terrific all-around effort in the Huskies' 62-51 victory over Coastal Christian, scoring 30 points and grabbing 14 rebounds to propel New Hampton.

The Philadelphia native, who took official visits this fall to Rhode Island and East Carolina, is one of the top unsigned prospects here at the War on the Shore.
"I think I did well today and played a good all-around game," Cook said. "I got a lot of rebounds, scoring and playing defense. We work hard in practice, and I think it shows in the game."
In addition to URI and ECU, Cook told Rivalshoops.com that he is also hearing from Marquette, Memphis and Oklahoma this fall.
His performance on Saturday should only help his stock. Simply put, Coastal Christian couldn't stop him from doing his thing, and he accounted for nearly 50 percent of his team's offensive output.
New Hampton led by nine at the half, but Coastal Christian had grabbed much of the momentum by the second half, tying the game at 42 with 6:40 remaining.
Cook jumpstarted his club by scoring over an array of defenders on a 15 foot jumper to give the Huskies a 44-42 lead. He then administered the dagger moments later by scoring on a second effort around the tin, where he was also fouled.
His basket and free throw with 1:34 to play extended New Hampton's lead to 54-46 and the Huskies never looked back.
While he has the chance to be a dominant force on a nightly basis in the prep ranks, Cook said he is still working on several aspects of his game this winter.
"I want to be more consistent with my jump shot and be able to lock someone down defensively," he admitted.
Rivalshoops.com will have the chance to catch Cook in action several more times this season, and we'll keep you posted on both his play and recruitment in the weeks and months to come. Stay tuned!
