Commitment Breakdown: Quante Berry Chooses Providence

Quante Berry

Three-star guard Quante Berry came off the board today as the Winston Salem (NC) Christian guard committed to Providence College this afternoon. Along with Providence, the 6-foot-3 Berry listed his final five schools as Tennessee, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and Texas A&M. Below Rivals.com will take a look at what Providence is getting.

Why I Like Him

Berry is a long-armed shooting guard who can really score the ball in the mid-range. He is also capable of playing on the ball as a secondary ball handler. As Berry continues to get stronger, he will be able to take contact in the paint and as he develops his jump shot consistency, he should continue to become an even bigger weapon on the floor. Berry excels in transition and is able to attack the rim in the open floor.

Rivals Reaction

While Berry is the second commitment for Providence in the 2022 class, the other, Jayden Epps has since decommitted. In 2021 Providence took two high school players in power forwards Legend Geeter and Rafael Castro. They also took three transfers, senior shooting guard Al Durham (Indiana), freshman shooting guard Matteus Case (Penn) and junior small forward Justin Minaya (South Carolina). Along with Berry, Providence brought in 7-foot-0 Christ Essandoko, 6-foot-7 BJ Omot, and 6-foot-2 Denver Anglin on official visits this June. Providence has had a lot of success with atypical, scoring type of lead guards recently, Berry could fit this archetype.

Coach's Corner

“Quante as a person is a great kid, very sharp. He also is a high academic kid who totally gets “it”. As a player he is a combo guard who excels at getting downhill and finishing at the rim. He also has a really good mid-range, pull-up jumper and will bring a lot of versatility to the Providence roster.” -Winston-Salem Christian Coach Antonio Lowe
