Combo Guard Is West Virginia Sleeper

Matt Estep, a resourceful 6-1, 160 pound lead guard from Greenbrier East H.S. in Fairlea, W.V., is a player who showed Division I potential at this past weekend's Southern Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
Playing with the Virginia based East Coast Eagles, Estep showed good quickness, savvy ball handling skills and the ability to score in different ways. While he's more of a two guard than a point guard at this stage, he can set up his teammates off dribble penetration.

While Estep has yet to grow into his frame, he's a player who could generate D-I recruiting looks this summer. The West Virginia staff has shown some early interest, but the Mountaineers have already picked up a 2004 guard in Darris Nichols (who plays with Estep in the same backcourt for the Eagles).
As a junior this past season, Estep averaged 21.7 points per game at Greenbrier East.
His numbers are even better in the classroom, where he carries a 4.0 GPA. Estep plans on taking the SAT and/or ACT in the fall.
This summer, Estep plans on playing with the East Coast Eagles and attending a session of the Five-Star Basketball Camp in Pittsburgh. We'll monitor his progress and let you know how he does. Stay tuned!
