Combo guard has heavy interest in Bruins

Arron Afflalo, a 6-foot-5 combo guard from Centennial high school in Compton, California, has quietly been watching the situation at UCLA. He has always been interested in his hometown Bruins, but the last few years have not been the same in Bruin land.
It is being reported that Pittsburgh head coach Ben Howland will become the new headman at UCLA. No official statement has been made, but all signs are pointing in that direction.

“I hear Ben Howland might be the new coach at UCLA,” Afflalo said. “I really don’t know that much about him, but I do know that he is a hard worker. That is about all I can say because I do not really know him, but UCLA is a school that I’m definitely going to consider.”
Nobody can blame Afflalo for giving his hometown Bruins a serious look. Playing in front of family and friends would be the opportunity of a lifetime, but do not think that he is a lock for UCLA.
Quite a few high major Division 1 schools are more than interested in Afflalo and he is in the process of narrowing things down. His list is not closed by any means, but several schools have jumped ahead of the pack.
“Right now, Kansas, Oregon, DePaul, Connecticut, UCLA and Stanford are the schools that I’m really interested in, and those are the schools that are really interested in me. I am still wide-open and there are plenty of other schools I am looking at, but none of the other schools come before these six.
“I’m going to start narrowing things down and start deciding on where I’ll officially visit,” he added. “I’m not quite sure when that will take place, but it will be soon.”
Afflalo and his Father spent several days in Anaheim, California, this past weekend. They got a firsthand look at one of the schools that appears to have quite a bit of interest in the combo guard.
“My dad and I went to the Kansas vs. Duke game this past weekend,” he said. “I spoke to coach Williams in the past and they definitely have some interest in me and, at the same time, I definitely have some interest in them. Their wins against Duke and Arizona were good wins and were impressive.”
Afflalo will spend the summer touring with his Compton Magic AAU team. He’ll jumpstart the summer early next month with a trip to Houston, Texas and will continue on to places like Las Vegas, which might be a place he sees several times this summer, along with other locations around the United States.
