"I wanted to stay close to home so my parents and my family could see me play," Colvin said. "I have family in Iowa and they are really close with the person that recruited me at Iowa State, coach Daniyal Robinson. That played a big role.
"I felt really comfortable with the players and the coaches. They have a good family feel to them. That's why I wanted to join them. I want to be a part of that family. I wanted to play with people that I can do good things with and get better as a player."
Colvin also visited Providence, Marquette and Southern Cal. He said Washington State and Connecticut also showed interest down the home stretch.
Colvin said he looks forward to stepping into big minutes for the Cyclones and playing a big role for the Big 12 program.
"Coach basically said he wants me to run the team. He wants me to be a leader and someone that can play the point for them out there on the floor," Colvin said. "He said they want someone to run their team and bring them back to the top."
