Columbia JV Nips St. Thomas More

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Marco McCottry scored inside with 8.0 seconds left in regulation to lift Columbia University's J.V. squad to a 50-48 victory over St. Thomas More on Monday afternoon at Levien Gym.

St. Thomas More, which trailed for much of the second half until establishing a 45-40 lead with 5:26 to play on two free throws from Anthony Wilson, could not hold on down the stretch.
An 8-2 run over the next four minutes allowed Columbia to take a one point lead at 48-47. Jefferson was fouled with :30 remaining and hit one of two free throws to knot the game at 48.
That set the stage for McCottry's heroics.
Kevin Reed, a fifth-year senior from Massachusetts in his second year at St. Thomas More, paced the Chancellors with 14 points. He is pictured at right.
Jefferson and 6-7 forward Aaron Johnson added nine points apiece in the loss.
Forward Matt Land scored 12 of his 14 points in the first half for Columbia, while former St. Mary's star and Lion freshman Matt Preston added 13 points and McCottry 10.
