Cody Horning Has Five Schools
Cody Horning, a skilled 6-8, 175 pound small forward from Longmont H.S. in Longmont, Colo., has narrowed his focus to five colleges this fall.
Horning said he has been offered scholarships by Wichita State, Pepperdine and UC-Santa Barbara. In addition, he said he is also being looked at this fall by Northwestern and Southern Methodist.
Horning will host Wichita State, UC-Santa Barbara and Pepperdine for in-home visits. He will then visit Pepperdine, Wichita State from Sept. 21-23 and UCSB from Sept. 28-30.
Horning said he hopes to host and officially visit SMU and Northwestern this fall, although no concrete plans have been made to do so.
"All of the schools are pretty even right now," Horning said. "Hopefully, after the official visits, one of them will appeal better than the others and make it easier on me."
As a junior at Longmont, Horning averaged 15 points, three rebounds and two blocks per game. He said he carries a 3.5 GPA and scored a 900 on the SAT. Although he has already achieved a qualifying score, Horning said he plans on taking both the SAT and ACT again this fall.
Horning impressed the Insiders Report with his overall skill level at several events this summer. While not yet a dominant offensive player and sporting a frail build, Horning showed that he could put the ball on the deck and pass well for a big man. He prefers to play facing the basket and will likely do so in college, although at the high school level he plays in the post.
This past summer, Horning played for the Colorado Select 17s Blue program. His summer event schedule included the Great American Shootout in Denton, Tex., the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas and the Best of the Summer Tournament in Los Angeles.
