Coaches out to see Arizona PG

Ask Arizona point guard Kalvin Bay what the top movie is right now and he couldn’t tell you. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound class of 2006 prospect doesn’t go out much. He’s too busy playing ball. That dedication to improvement is one of the reasons why some high-major schools are making it out to Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe.
Bay, the consummate gym rat, is always playing hoops. If he isn’t playing, he’s watching. If he isn’t playing or watching, he’s probably asleep. And when he’s playing, schools are watching.

Oregon, Arizona State, Louisville, Northern Arizona and New Mexico all came out to see Bay this fall. A trip to Iowa was momentarily postponed due to travel complications. He made the cross country trip to Georgia Tech for an unofficial visit. The trip to Atlanta stood out to the class of 2006 prospect.
“It was real nice. I enjoyed it a lot. The coaching staff and players all treated me like I was part of the family,” Bay said. “That’s where I want to go right now. I loved the atmosphere there and they just made me feel really welcome.”
Bay is said Louisville and Oregon are his other top two schools while Iowa is also showing a large amount of interest. Arizona State, Texas Tech and a host of others are also interested, too.
There is a lot to like of the player that averaged 18 points, eight assists and six rebounds as a sophomore. And the youngster said he is open to more and then put his recruitment into overdrive this time next year.
“We’ll see what offers I do get and then I’ll start to look at who is serious,” Bay said. “I’d like to sign early if at all possible.”
Bay is a pure point guard that can score when needed but he’ll tell you his satisfaction comes from making the pass and picking up an assist. Resting a strained quad muscle, Bay missed the first game of the year on Tuesday night. But when he gets back on the floor, he’ll be ready.
“I want to make sure that my team wins and goes deep into the state playoffs,” Bay said. “I mean, it’s that simple. I just want to win.”
