Coach Isiah Anderson Moving On
Isiah Anderson, who built Crispus Attucks Youth into a national prep basketball power in a short time period, has accepted the head coaching position at the York Country Day School in York, Penn.
Anderson is hoping to build on the success that he had at Crispus Attucks, which is also located in York. While the head coach at Crispus Attucks, Anderson led his team to the title of the second annual National Prep School Invitational in Boston, Mass. last February.
"We are looking for student athletes who want to work hard on and off the court, playing the best competition we can get our hands on while getting the maximum exposure," Anderson told the Insiders Report. "I have built a tremendous amount of contacts with college recruiters and coaches. I have proven that I know how to get kids to the next level."
The focus at York Country Day will be a bit different than the one Anderson had while coaching at Crispus Attucks. York Country Day is a school with very high academic standards, while Crispus Attucks was able to admit more academic risk type students.
Anderson expects to get many players for his initial squad from the York area, but he is also actively looking for transfers. With Baltimore just 45 minutes away from York, Anderson is hoping that some student-athletes in that region will be willing to make the commute to York Country Day, as the school does not have dorms.
"We are looking for good students who want to play a tough schedule," he said.
YCD competes in the SIACC, and is locked in to 12 league games each year. Anderson is in the process of scheduling his 14 non-league games, and has already set up a game between York C.D. and Towson Catholic (which features one of America's top rising senior talents in Carmelo Anthony).
Some of the players that Anderson coached at Crispus Attucks were:
Chris Charles, Villanova
Sam Sutton, Towson
Omari Pearson, UNLV
Lafonte Johnson, UNLV
Brian Hamilton, New Orleans
Bayi Handy, Georgia State
John Toombs, Abraham Baldwin Ag College (J.C.)
Erick Wills, Vincennes JC
Brandon Deshields, Hagerstown J.C.
Dontaz Dean, Seward County C.C.
Due to some financial issues surrounding the funding of the program, Crispus Attucks ceased its prep school basketball squad following the 1999-2000 season. Anderson remained at the school this year but the school did not field a postgraduate basketball squad.
