Cliff Brown Chooses A School

One of the better sleepers to emerge from the summer evaluation period, 6-6, 225 forward Cliff Brown of Ferndale H.S. in Ferndale, Mich., has committed to Kent State.
Brown had been offered scholarships this fall by Kent and Central Michigan, and he had also considered Minnesota, UConn, Virginia, Boston College and New Mexico State.

Brown had taken unofficial visits to both Kent and CMU, but found Stan Heath's Golden Flash program to be the right fit for him.
"I found a spot I felt comfortable with," Brown said. "I already know a lot of the guys on the team and I know the assistant coach very well. Coach Heath is a great coach, and I think he knows the game very well. It's not too far away from home but it's away from home."
Brown enjoyed a productive summer that began at the adidas ABCD Camp in New Jersey, where he flourished in the up tempo style of play emphasized at that event. He followed that up by playing well at the adidas Three Stripes Classic in New York with the Inland/Team Detroit entry.
Brown wrapped up a busy summer at the adidas ABCD Camp with Rodney Heard's Team Detroit program.
An effective finisher in transition, Brown has a nose for the basketball and the ability to knock down short-mid range jumpers. He'll need to work on his ball handling and three point shooting in order to make the transition to the three slot at the college level.
As a junior at Ferndale, Brown averaged 24.9 points, 13.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists and two steals per game. Brown said he was recently nominated for Mr. Basketball in the state of Michigan. That award will not be given until after the conclusion of the 2001-2002 high school basketball season.
