Clemson adds another Georgia guard

Clemson started the official visit season off hard by bringing in its top two targets. One player committed while in South Carolina. The other needed a couple more weeks to think about it. In the end, the Tigers have the Georgia natives they wanted in the bag as Tanner Smith gave his nod to the ACC school on Thursday.
The Tigers hosted the three-star guard from Wesleyan High School in late August along with state mate Andre Young, who pledged on the spot. After a visit to Auburn and Vanderbilt, Smith felt like his time was now.

"I was comparing every visit to Clemson. After looking to that, I realized that maybe that was the best place for me," Smith said. "I didn't have as good of a time as I did at Clemson. It would probably be stupid for me to go somewhere else. I just felt the most comfortable there.
"It seemed like the right fit for me. When I went there for my first visit, I felt really comfortable around their coaches and their players. Everyone there was great," Smith said. "Each person there and every coach there are great people."
Smith is the third player to commit to Clemson in the class of 2008. He joins Young and 7-footer Caitlin Baciu of North Carolina via Romania. Smith said he and Young have developed a strong relationship already.
"We've known each other for a while just because we have played against each other for so long," Smith said. "We are both excited about it. He's stayed in touch with me for a while."
Smith said he likes the opportunity of playing right away as well.
"That opportunity is there. I'll be able to fight for a starting spot my freshman year in the ACC. That's a perfect situation."
