Clemson adds 2012 point guard

Sometimes, a commitment for another school can clear the way for a program to pick up a commitment. That happened for Clemson on Thursday when they added Jordan Roper.
A 6-foot-1 point guard from Irmo (S.C.) High, the rising senior had been down to VCU and Clemson.

On Wednesday, Shaka Smart's program landed a commitment from wing Jordan Burgess leaving them without a scholarship for Roper. Rather than risk missing out on another one of his top choices, Roper pulled the trigger for Brad Brownell's Clemson program.
"VCU was out of scholarships," Roper told TigerIllustrated.com's Ryan Bartwo. "It came down to that. So I called coach (Brad) Brownell just now and told him I wanted to be a Tiger and we were both excited."
While he picked Clemson in reaction to VCU running out of scholarships, that doesn't mean Roper isn't very high on the Tigers.
"They are headed in the right direction," Roper said. "It's close to home.
"They are an elite program in my eyes."
An athletic point guard and three-star prospect, Roper joins a class that already includes three-star forward Jaron Blossomgame who currently ranks No. 119 in the 2012 Rivals150.
