Class of 2019 PG talks Florida, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Deuce Dean used the travel season as his way of putting his name on the radar of college coaches all over the country. The 6-foot-4 point guard in the 2019 class possesses great versatility. He can play multiple positions and can fill different roles depending on what his team needs from him, which is exactly why he earned a spot in the most recent Rivals150 at No. 105.

Over the past six months, he’s added offers from Charlotte, Colorado State, Kansas State, St. Joe’s and Virginia Tech. Interest is coming in from Clemson, Florida, Indiana, Ohio State, Stanford, USC, Virginia, Wake Forest and others. He’s taken trips to see Florida, Virginia and Virginia Tech so far.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Dean gave a quick recap of the three visits he’s taken so far and what stands out about each program.

Florida: “It went well. I like the way they play. They are guard-based and let the guards go.”

Virginia: “I like the way Coach (Tony) Bennett runs his program and the type of style they play.”

Virginia Tech: “I went to a football game there but haven’t gone to a basketball game yet. Coach Buzz (Williams) is tough and very organized.”

RIVALS REACTION

Dean’s recruitment is still taking shape and he says he’s nowhere near comfortable making a list of top schools or making a verbal commitment. Obviously getting him on campus early is big for Florida, Virginia and Virginia Tech, although only Virginia Tech has offered. Virginia was supposed to see him in Atlanta this past weekend, but a snow/ice storm cancelled the games. Point guards with his type of size, versatility and feel for the game are always in high demand, so expect his recruitment to heat up as he gets closer to his senior year.
