Rivals.com certainly liked what it saw out of 2009 prospect Keith Clanton at the Amare Stoudemire Invitational Classic over the holidays. Several colleges have tracked him since, and look for the offers to come in during the spring for the 6-foot-7, 210-pound forward from Orlando Christian High School.
Florida State, Miami and Oklahoma have all checked in on Clanton since his strong performance at the Invitational. With his team ranked in thee top five in the state, Clanton, however, is waiting till after the season to think about recruiting.
"I haven't thought much about my recruiting," said Clanton. "We are focused on winning a state championship. My coach is pushing me to be more than a scorer. He wants me to be a leader and strong rebounder."
And Clanton has been hitting the boards, averaging 16 rebounds per game to go along with a 22 points per game scoring average.
Although Clanton will focus more on recruiting when he is running this spring with Team Breakdown, he does have a top five list which includes Oklahoma, Texas, Miami, VCU and Indiana.
A versatile big man who can handle and pass the ball on the perimeter as well as cause damage around the basket, Clanton wants to play in a system which will utilize his array of talents.
"I'll be looking at the coaching and style of play of the schools recruiting me," he said. "I want to play for a coach who lets his players play and doesn't hold them back. I'm looking for a wide open, spread offense."
