FT. MYERS, Fla. -- The top remaining playmaker in the class of 2018, five-star point guard Jahvon Quinerly would usually in the midst of a heavily fought recruitment. Then again Quinerly's recruitment is anything but usual.

The product of Jersey City (N.J.) Hudson Catholic who ranks No. 22 nationally actually committed to Arizona back in August. Then the FBI investigation into college corruption hit and Quinerly was identified as having possibly received money for his commitment.

When Rivals.com last saw Quinerly at USA Basketball in early October he was still committed to Arizona and referred questions about his status to an attorney his family hired. Shortly after that Quinerly decommitted.

Since then, there has only been rumor and innuendo to go off in regards to his recruitment. After scoring 18 points and handing out six assists in Hudson Catholic's opening round win over Webster Groves (Mo.) High, Quinerly was asked to discuss the status of his recruitment.

Given the position that Quinerly is in, it's totally understandable that he would be directed by his family not to discuss his recruitment. At some point he's likely going to have to discuss what did or didn't happen with the NCAA and because of what that could mean for his eligibility as a freshman, he's a bit of a gamble for schools to recruit.

Villanova and Rutgers both had assistants on hand while Quinerly played and along with Seton Hall they've been the names that come up the most often when there's speculation about who may be involved.

Bottom line, things could take some time to work themselves out for Quinerly and he's doing the smart thing by not discussing his recruitment. There's just not anything to gain.

In the meantime, the skilled and tough floor general said that he's doing his best to focus on his senior season and winning as many games as possible. Also, while he can't be vocal about his recruitment, he's become more vocal with his teammates.

"I'm working to be a more vocal leader," said Quinerly. "I'm a lead by example guy so I'm trying to communicate more verbally."
