FORT MYERS, FL. – Fully healthy and back to his explosive self, Christian Brown looked his best in recent months at the City of Palms Classic. A 6-foot-7 forward that is not lacking in the athleticism department, Brown has remained patient with the recruiting process as five schools currently stand out.
Completing his opening night session in Florida with a sturdy stat line of 14 points, four rebounds and two blocks, it was Brown’s motor, transition play and versatile defense that really stood out. Following his team’s win, the four-star told Rivals.com that Clemson, Georgia, Illinois, Pitt and St. John’s have been in the greatest contact of late.
IN HIS OWN WORDS
Clemson: “I have been to campus many times. They are saying that I can flourish there, a transition team and get up and go. That is my kind of playing style.”
Georgia: “I talk to Tom Crean a lot and I have been up there a couple of times and I have gone up there on an official visit.”
Illinois: “I am talking about going up there for a visit. I haven’t been up there to the campus but the coaches have been telling me that it is a good school and Kofi (Cockburn) is getting recruited there, too.”
Pitt: “One of my former teammates, Trey (McGowens), goes there. I know a lot of people that go to Pitt. It is a good school, a run-and-gun school, and I talk to the head coach (Jeff Capel) about the campus and all of that.”
St. John’s: “Same thing, a run-and-gun school, I haven’t been up there yet to see the campus but I have just been going by what the coaches have been telling me.”
WHAT'S NEXT & RIVALS' REACTION
Brown has already taken three official visits to Clemson, Georgia and UNLV, though he is in no rush to make a commitment. “It is about finding what the best fit is and not jumping into anything. I want to make the right decision and not have to transfer,” he said. “Just to smooth everything out and find out what the right school is for me.”
In the meantime, Brown is sorting out which programs he will use his final two official visits on. A commitment should be expected in the spring, he told Rivals.com, as he remains one of the top forward prospects available this winter.
