Cincinnati picks up an underclassman

Cincinnati picked up a commitment during the early signing period, but it wasn't from a senior. 6-foot-8, 205-pound forward Darnell Wilkes of Pioneer Christian Academy in Nashville, Tenn., has pledged to be a Bearcat.
"Darnell has wanted to go to Cincinnati all along," said his legal guardian and high school coach Carl Reed. "He just wanted to take his time to make sure. I've always told him once you commit, it's done. I'm not into guys going back and forth on their decision.

"Darnell wasn't really interested in anywhere else. He feels that Cincinnati is a great fit for him."
An athletic forward who can run and rebound, Wilkes is also improving his skill game on the perimeter. Coach Reed is certain that Wilkes' game will fit in well with Coach Cronin's system.
"He has a chance to play immediately," said Reed. "He is such a versatile player, who can play and guard a lot of different positions. It's a perfect fit for what Cincinnati is wanting to do under Coach Cronin.
Wilkes is the first Cincinnati commitment out of the class of 2008.
