The rising senior big man from Flowing Wells H.S. in Tucson, Ariz., has seen quite a bit of interest this summer, including a number of scholarship offers from Division I schools.
Ayer told the Insiders Report that he has been offered scholarships by Southern California, Loyola Marymount, Northern Arizona and Texas El Paso. "I have already visited Northern Arizona," Ayer told us. "I had a very good time there. I liked the campus too."
Ayer told us he plans on having in home visits. The schools he is considering for in home visits are Loyola Marymount, Portland, St. Mary's, and UTEP. "I will probably take visits to Loyola Marymount, Portland, and St. Mary's," Ayer said. "I want to make a decision by November 1st."
In addition to the above schools, Ayer has also been contacted this summer by St. Louis, UC-Irvine, UC-Santa Barbara, Portland, San Diego, and Cal State Northridge.
Earlier this month between camp sessions, Ayer took an unofficial visit to Southern Cal.
Ayer played with the Tucson Heat at both the adidas Big Time and Best of the Summer Tournaments. Prior to those events, he attended basketball camps at St. Louis University, the University of Utah and U. Cal/San Diego. He also did the first session of the Pump's West Coast All-Star Camp.
Although he struggled a bit when we saw him at the Best of the Summer, Ayer is coveted by many college programs because of his size and potential. He'll never be a gazelle, but if can improve his conditioning and add muscle to his frame in the coming years, there's no telling how good he could be down the road.
Ayer averaged 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks per contest as a junior at Flowing Wells. He said he has a 3.5 GPA and has already achieved a qualifying SAT score.
He plans on taking the SAT and ACT again this fall.
The Insiders Report will keep you posted on his recruitment in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
