Chavis Chooses A School

Darien Chavis, a 5-11, 170 pound freshman point guard from Kansas City C.C. in Kansas City, Kan., signed with Colorado State.
Chavis took his trip to CSU this past weekend. Oregon State came in to see Chavis last week, but did not offer him a scholarship.

Siena, Marist and Fresno State were among other programs who had taken a look at Chavis this spring.
"He kind of had it narrowed down to between Hofstra and Colorado State," Oler said.
Chavis, a native of Philadelphia, Penn., took an official visit earlier this spring to Hofstra in addition to his recent trip to CSU.
He averaged 10 points and four assists per game for the Blue Devils this past season.
"He had a real good conference season," Oler said. "He was very consistent, and he has three years to play wherever he goes, and I think that's the enticement, because of his athleticism."
The younger brother of current Texas Tech junior Will Chavis, Darien was a qualifier out of high school in Philadelphia. He started out the 2000-2001 at Panola with his older brother, but transferred into KCK last January and sat out half a year before playing the 2001-2002 season at the Jayhawk East Conference program.
"He has really improved his shooting and overall control of his game," Oler said. "That's the biggest thing he has had to learn in college, and he improved that as the year went along."
