Cassara: Craig Smith Is Unreal Talent

Worcester Academy head coach Mo Cassara doesn't usually get wound up about a player's individual skills. But he did when we asked him about Boston College bound Craig Smith.
Smith is a a 6-8, 220-pound power forward from Worcester Academy in Massachusetts. He has had a tremendous season thus far. "He is an unreal talent," Cassara said. "He is so tough to stop in the block."

Having seen Smith play several times, what makes this young man so tough to stop in the paint is his soft hands. "He has great hands," Cassara said. "And what makes him even more effective is his feet. He is terrific in traffic when handling the ball."
Smith is Worcester's leading point scorer and rebounder. "He has a big upside to his game," Cassara said. "He can score from different parts of the court too. He has a great touch around the basket."
Smith is vastly underrated. He will do well on the college level because he knows how to handle his wide frame in the low post. When he catches the ball in the low post, Smith always has a plan on what he wants to do offensively. He has some dipsy doodle moves as well as an up and under move.
Smith is a tough warrior inside. He battles for every loose ball. He is extremely confident when his teammates feed him the ball. And he establishes position with authority. These are all great signs of a player who will score for you in the low post.
