Cass checks out Big Ten school

Manuel Cass is making the rounds. The 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward from Carbondale (Ill.) High School visited Iowa over the weekend and has his sights set on a couple more trips before making any kind of decision.
The three-star forward had a chance to meet with Steve Alford and the rest of the Hawkeyes last weekend. Cass was even hosted by fellow Illinois native Tony Freeman. Cass said the trip was worth the time spent.

"It went pretty well. Everything was pretty nice there, nice coaches, nice players, nice campus," Cass said. "They like to have fun down there."
With his first trip under his belt, Cass will travel to Bradley this weekend and has a date set with Xavier for Oct. 22. He also said his "mentor is talking to Illinois about setting something up but we haven't got anything in stone right now with them."
Cass said he intends on signing in the early period in November. In the meantime, he's waiting for that gut feeling on a school before making any kind of decision.
"Do I feel comfortable in that environment and will I be able to have a good time there? Those are important things," Cass said. "I want to have a good time as a college student. I don't want to have to drive 70 miles just to do something.
"I'm mostly looking at the attention I can get in the classroom. How big are the classes? How good are the teachers? Things like that," Cass said. "I'm really big on the academics and the education side of things but I also want a good program, a place that will be good for me to grow in."
