Carmona Takes Off

Alex Carmona, one of the top prospects first from the 2002 class and then the 2003 class, has taken off from The Winchendon School in Massachusetts, according to head coach Mike Byrnes. "He's no longer here," Byrnes said. "He just packed up his room and left."
Byrnes said the word on Carmona is he may try professional ball somewhere overseas. "He is a great player," Byrnes said. "But I guess this wasn't for him. So he's gone."

The 6-5, 210 pound small forward, who played last year at Troy (OH) High School, ran into eligibiliy problems last year. The Ohio High School Athletic Association in October denied his appeal to be eligible for interscholastic athletics last year for Troy.
Carmona first verbally committed to Oliver Purnell's Dayton Flyers program even through the Atlantic 10 school was out of scholarship slots. Earlier there were indications he was headed to Memphis. Then he changed his mind and gave a commitment to John Calipari's program. Byrnes had said previously that Carmona was committed to Memphis. But obviously this has changed too.
