A birthday present is soon to come for some lucky school from Carmelo Anthony, 6-7, 190 pound swingman from Towson, Maryland. Anthony is all set to announce his school of choice on his birthday, May 29th.
Before that, Anthony will play in a Memorial Day tournament. "When he returns he will announce his school of choice," said Baltimore Blue head coach Joe Connelly. "But I will let Carmelo announce where he is going. It is his choice."
Further prodding by us did not receive any additional information regarding Anthony's decision. But our sources close to Anthony say he is likely to announce for Syracuse -- though in this business -- anything is possible.
Anthony is expected to play for head coach Steve Smith at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia next season. Anthony's AAU coach Joe Connelly confirmed several weeks ago.
Anthony has had a list of North Carolina, Maryland, Syracuse, Villanova, and Virginia for the past several months.
North Carolina has backed out. Others have not.
Anthony may attend summer school at Oak Hill and bypass some of the major AAU events. This decision has not been made but is being discussed.
