Carmelo Anthony: A Nice Fit For Syracuse

Carmelo Anthony, 6-7, 190 pound swingman, has left for France today to play against overseas competition. Anthony is already committed to Syracuse. It was his birthday yesterday.
"Carmelo was running all around over the past couple of days," his AAU coach Joe Connelly said. "He has not had much chance to do anything."

Connelly said he thinks that Anthony will fit in well at Syracuse. "Coach Boeheim has that open style of offense," Connelly said. "And Carmelo is a very good offensive player. He will fit in great there."
Connelly said that Anthony brings so much to the table for Syracuse. "In the half court set he is also very effective," Connelly said. "Carmelo can dribble past you or shoot the jumper."
Anthony previously told Russ Blake this past weekend that he plans on announcing for Syracuse on his birthday. "I don't know if he even called the newspapers," Connelly said. "He was so tied up with this birthday and also getting ready to go to France. But he is all set for Syracuse."
Anthony said he wanted to make a decision early because: "I didn't want the pressure and my mother didn't want the pressure. I like the style of play, the coaches. I like coach Boeheim. He's a great coach. He lets the players play."
Anthony, who plays with the Baltimore Blue AAU-team, is scheduled to participate in the NBA camp in DC and the Nike camp this summer.
