Capel lands first 2007 commitment

New Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel has landed his first catch in the 2007 class with the commitment of Cade Davis, a 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing player from Elk City, Okla.
"I went up there yesterday to meet with Coach Capel for the first time in person," said Davis. "I got to know him better and got an idea of what he wants to do and how he will run the program. They offered, and it seemed like the best thing to do."

One reason it was an easy decision for Davis to commit on his visit is that he has grown up a fan of the Sooners program.
"I've always been a big fan of Oklahoma, growing up with the Sooners," he said. "This a great opportunity for me to play in my home state and close to home."
Davis had offers this spring from a host of mid-major schools, including Tulsa, Oral Roberts and Wichita State, and he recently fielded calls from Nevada and Washington State.
Having averaged 25 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists per game as a junior, Davis will be called upon to knock down jumpers and play a solid all around game for the Sooners.
"I need to get stronger and build my upper body to be ready for the Big 12," he said. "I'm also going to spend time working on my ball handling."
With the commitment of Davis, the new Sooners coaching staff is hoping to make inroads with their top 2007 recruiting target Blake Griffin, who is a teammate of Davis on the Athletes First AAU club.
