Can He Qualify

FT. WAYNE, Ind. -- Ray Nixon, a 6-8, 200 pound power forward from Dominican H.S. in Milwaukee, Wis., is still trying to attain a qualifying test score this spring.
Nixon, who signed with Wisconsin in the fall, needs to get a 19 on the ACT due to his core GPA. He played with the Wisconsin DTA program this past weekend at the Spiece Tournament in Indiana, and spoke with the Insiders Report/Rivalshoops.com about his situation.

"They [the Wisconsin staff] is keeping its head up high and they believe in me, thinking that I can make my grades and my test," Nixon said. "And I believe in myself also."
Nixon took his most recent ACT exam in April, and scored an 18 on it. Because he has a 2.2 core GPA, he will need to get a 19 on the ACT exam. By contrast, a player with a 2.5 core GPA only needs a 17 on the ACT.
Neither Nixon nor recruit Maurice "Boo" Wade has qualified yet for the Badgers, and there has been speculation whether or not Wisconsin would be able to admit one or both players as a partial or non-qualifier.
Of course, Nixon could attend prep school next year should he not get the test score, but right now, he's thinking about getting the test score.
"I don't really think about my other options, because I know I can get that score," Nixon said. "I might look at prep school, but right now, my focus is on the test."
