Cameron to Play Closer to Home

First Clemson, then Tennessee, and now Auburn for 6-foot-7, 245-pound power forward Joey Cameron. This time the No. 107 ranked player in the Rivals150 from Leeds (Ala.) High School feels great about his decision to play his college basketball closer to home.
"I have decided to attend Auburn University,” said Cameron. “I just think it is the best fit for me. I grew up in Notasulga about 10 minutes from Auburn. I still have family there, and they will get a chance to see me play. My family is very excited that I will be going to Auburn."

The opportunity for early playing time also drew Cameron to Auburn.
"Auburn will be graduating five seniors, so I should have a great opportunity to earn early playing time,” he said. “Coach Lebo didn’t promise me any thing, but he did tell me that if I work hard, I would have a good chance to play a lot as a freshmen.”
After officially visiting Tennessee, Cameron headed down to Auburn last weekend for an official visit along side another top ranked power forward Korvotney Barber.
"I really enjoyed my visit to Auburn this weekend,” he said. “It was a great environment. The guys down there are great. I look forward to playing for them and hopefully with Korvotney Barber."
Cameron, who averaged 25 points and 14 rebounds per game last season, made it known that his change of mind is more about the positives of Auburn and has nothing to do with any negatives concerning Tennessee.
"It wasn’t anything that Tennessee did wrong,” he said. “I just think right now Auburn is a better place for me and a better chance for my family to see me play. They are more excited with me going to Auburn instead of Tennessee."
