California point guard still open

Todd Lowenthal, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound point guard from Poway High School in San Diego, Calif., is winding down his high school career and eyeing his college plans along the way.
Despite an ankle injury that has sidelined him late in the season, Lowenthal is averaging 21 points and six assists per game, he said.

With a young team, Lowenthal has been more than just a scorer and floor general. He said he has had to rally his teammates together
"That has really helped me this year," Lowenthal said. "I know in college you have to be a leader all the time. The point guard is like being a second coach."
College is in the horizon and the uncommitted senior knows he will have to decide on his future plans in the near future.
"(Recruiting) is going well, I've been getting a lot of calls lately and schools have been coming out," Lowenthal said.
Lowenthal said Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois State, Portland, Richmond, San Jose State, UC-Santa Barbara and Tulsa have all shown various amounts of interest of late. The former San Diego commitment has four more official visits to use and he hopes to get out after the season and take a look at some of his options.
Without any problems on the academic side, Lowenthal said he'd like to find a school that was the best fit in both basketball and in the books.
