Cal nabs junior point guard Hickman

For the last month or so, point guard Alec Hickman's name has been ringing out from the West Coast.
A 6-foot-3 combo guard at San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) JSerra Catholic, Hickman had been impressing coaches who came to see him. One of those coaches he impressed was California's Cuonzo Martin, who offered a scholarship last week.

The scholarship was quickly accepted by Hickman.
"I feel like it was a perfect fit for me," Hickman told Rivals.com. "I really liked them from the start and I feel that this is my best opportunity to be who I am and be a basketball player."
Slender but capable of getting to the rim and knocking down deep shots, Hickman has the size and length to play off the ball if needed. For his time in college, though, he's thinking he'll be a point guard who is willing to help out wherever needed.
"I'm a point guard but I can play the two," said Hickman, who plays his summer ball with Team Eleate. "However they want to use me is fine.
"I think my biggest strength is being able to score the ball and being a leader on the court. Whether it is scoring in this game, getting rebounds in this game or getting assists in this game I think have multiple strengths."
Hickman is actually a senior this year but plans to spend a year in prep school to prepare for college, making him a class of 2017 prospect. He's glad that he can just focus on getting better from here on out.
"It's definitely a feeling of joy and a feeling of relief," said Hickman. "It's definitely a lot of weight off your chest."
