Cage Makes It Official

Dan Cage, a sharp-shooting 6-5, 205 pound swingman from Bishop Chatard H.S. in Indianapolis, Ind., committed to St. Bonaventure last week.
Rivalshoops.com recently caught up with Cage, who confirmed his commitment to the Bonnie program. He said he picked St. Bonaventure after taking his only official visit to the school from Sept. 20-22.

Cage said he had scholarship offers from UNC-Wilmington, Wright State and Furman, and also had interest from West Virginia, Virginia, Navy and Holy Cross.
"It's just a good fit for me," he reflected. "It's a good academic school, and it's not in a city, it's actually kind of secluded."
"I like that, because I am going to school to get an education and play basketball," he continued. "I am not into all the partying and stuff."
Cage also pointed to the school's membership in the Atlantic 10 Conference, as well as the coaching staff, as key factors in his decision.
This past summer, Cage shined with the Billy Shepherd Sports program at the adidas Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas. His outside shooting and solid overall play from the wing were factors in the team's unexpected run to the final four.
Last season at Bishop Chatard, he averaged 17 points, five rebounds and five assists per contest.
"I see myself as a pure shooter," Cage explained. "They are graduating two seniors at the wing positions, and I am the first to commit. I have to work hard, but there's an opportunity to come in and earn some minutes."
He's also excited about playing with current Bonnies sophomore Mike Gansey.
"I see myself as a complement to Gansey," Cage said. "I can take the ball to the hoop, plus I can catch and shoot it from the wing. With a player like Mike, I can set up on the wing and be there for the kick out pass."
Cage said that like most players, he is going to work on certain aspects of his game that need upgrading for the Atlantic 10 level. In particular, he is looking to get bigger and stronger, as well as improve his lateral quickness.
Cage is expected to ink with the Bonnies during the November signing period. He is the first player from the Class of 2003 to commit to St. Bonaventure.
