CA Combo Guard Cuts List

Jim Goffredo, a savvy 6'0'', 170 pound combo guard from Crescenta Valley High School in Crescenta, California, has a number of academic schools as well as Mid-level left coast schools vying for his services.
Goffredo, who impressed Rivals Hoops with his marksmanship and savvy during an All-Tournament performance at Three Stripes with The LA Rockfish, posted strong showings at both The Las Vegas Big Time Tourney and Best of Summer in California. Goffredo dropped 25 points on a talented Atlanta Celtics squad in Vegas, and created a little buzz for himself during the two events.

Jim has pared his list down to seven schools: Holy Cross, Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, and Cal-Riverside. Holy Cross has offered, and the rest of the suitors are very serious. Among this group, three schools have separated themselves from the pack.
"He really likes Princeton and Loyola," said John Goffredo, Jim's coach at Crescenta Valley who has coached high school ball for 30 years. "And Holy Cross isn't too far behind them."
"Jim likes these schools, but he is still open," added John Goffredo.
Goffredo will take official visits to Princeton and Holy Cross in the fall. He has already visited Loyola unofficially. Riverside is interested in hosting Jim for an official visit.
Goffredo is lethal from behind the arc. What makes him so attractive is not only his shooting capabilities, but marksmanship coupled with his know-how and basketball IQ. Jim really knows the game well, makes good decisions, and can defend players a few inches taller than him.
Goffredo is an excellent student, carrying a 4.3 weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale. He has never gotten lower than an "A" in any class. Jim has scored 1320 on the SAT, and 32 on the ACT.
Frankly put, Goffredo would be fielding interest from higher level programs if he were a couple of inches taller. He's a combo, and seems more comfortable on the wing, but the kid can play, regardless of his size. This could be a situation where an academic school snatches Goffredo up, and then you see him on CBS in a couple years burning one of the big dogs in the tourney. While it's easy to quantify size, the intangibles Goffredo brings to the table are harder to measure, and perhaps harder to find than a 6'4'' wing.
We'll keep you posted as Jim's recruitment evolves.
