Business As Usual For Kansas Staff

Marcus Monk, , a 6-foot-6, 205-pound wing forward from East Poinsett County High School in Lepanto, Arkansas was one of several recruits waiting to see who would be named the new head coach at the University of Kansas. As it turns out, the situation could not have ended up any better for the Monk.
“I got an e-mail from Coach Self last night,” Monk said. “He just wanted to contact me and let me know that he’s still very much interested in me. Coach Self and Coach Jankovich recruited me while they were at Illinois, so I am familiar with them.

"Kansas is a school that I am definitely interested in and if they offer me an official visit, I will take it,” he added.
I was more than surprised when Monk told me that the coaching staff had already contacted him. Coach Self and the rest of his staff had not even been on the job for a full day yet, so that speaks volumes about Monk and how the staff feels about his abilities.
During the April long contact period, quite a few schools have made the trip to Arkansas and spent a little time with Monk and Kevin Kyzer, his head coach.
Schools like Boston College, Northwestern, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Florida, Connecticut and Memphis have all made visits or have something scheduled before the contact period ends.
While Monk enjoys the fact that all his hard work is paying off, he is in no rush to make a decision.
“As far as my recruiting goes not a lot of changed during the last few weeks,” Monk said. “I traveled to Texas last week with my AAU team and I’m just trying to focus on that. We got beat in the elite eight by the team that won the whole tournament.”
If the Kansas coaching staff is serious about Monk, they are going to get a serious look from him.
