Burns recaps ACC and SEC visits

D.J. Burns
D.J. Burns

Four-star center D.J. Burns is becoming a hot commodity in South Carolina in the 2019 class. Already ranked No 68 in the 2019 Rivals150, the 6-foot-9, 250-pound post player is averaging 14 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks as his sophomore season nears its end.

While he’s been busy with his own season, he’s also been taking a more serious approach to the recruiting process as well. He visited Georgia this past Saturday for the Bulldogs' close loss to Kentucky and followed that up with a visit to Georgia Tech the following day for the Jackets' exciting win over Syracuse. He’s also seen Tennessee, College of Charleston, Clemson, South Carolina and North Carolina this season.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Burns recapped his recent visits and shared his thoughts on the programs.

Georgia: “It was fun. It was great. The fans were really, really into it. The coaching staff was really good. It was nice. I like how their weight room is only for basketball players. I got to talk to the strength and conditioning coach while I was there too.”

Georgia Tech: “It was great. They really showed up in that game. I got to talk to coach (Josh) Pastner a little bit, but it was mostly when he was with the team. He’s done a great job. He’s a good coach, but he also has a great relationship with the players. I like the way he coaches.”

North Carolina: “I had a game that day, so I wasn’t really allowed to talk to the coaches, but the game I went to was great against Monmouth. I like the way Carolina plays inside out mostly and how they use Kennedy Meeks. I like the way they play defense too.”

Tennessee: “I love it at Tennessee. The coaching staff is great. I call coach (Desmond) Oliver to talk a lot. I like the way they play. They really pound it inside to Grant Williams and score a lot of points inside.”

Clemson/South Carolina: “I’ve only been to each of them once each. The fans are great and they both have great atmospheres. I like the way Frank Martin coaches.”

WHAT'S NEXT?

Burns still has a few games left in his sophomore season, so that will be his biggest focus in the immediate future. After that, he’ll continue to be active doing his homework on the schools involved in recruiting him. During travel season, he’ll once again be suiting up with the Georgia Stars on one of the more talented teams on the Nike circuit.

RIVALS' REACTION

It’s so early in the process and so many schools are involved with Burns that it’s hard to pinpoint a favorite or a group of favorites at this point. Burns says he’s completely open to all schools right now and is just enjoying the process. Our sources tell us Georgia Tech and Tennessee are making the strongest push right now, but it will be quite some time before Burns comes to a decision.
