DAYTON – Four-star sophomore guard Nimari Burnett, the No. 55 player in the class of 2020, displayed all the tools this past weekend at the Flyin’ to the Hoop Basketball Invitation that one looks for in a high-major recruit.

A 6-foot-2 guard from Chicago that recently made the move to the west coast, Burnett is now playing point guard for nationally ranked Prolific Prep. Despite his grade level, Burnett has already immersed himself into a national recruitment.

Arizona, Stanford, USC, Michigan have been involved, and Illinois and DePaul have offered the sophomore.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

Stanford: “I took a visit to Stanford visit one or two months ago. It was beautiful. A nice basketball program and everybody knows that it is great academic school; it wowed me.”

Illinois: “It is a good school. I took a visit there. It was really great; a good atmosphere. We watched the football game while I was there.”

WHAT'S NEXT

Burnett is just settling into his time on the west coast this winter playing with a very talented Prolific Prep unit, one bolstered by UC-Santa Barbara recruits Sekou Toure and Amadou Sow, along with Rivasl150 Buffalo signee Jeenathan Williams and five-star big man Jordan Brown.

RIVALS REACTION

Burnett was tremendous over the weekend in Dayton, displaying excellent poise, versatility and well-rounded abilities. Completing his time in the Midwest with a tremendous outing of 23 points, Burnett brings good size to the lead guard spot, along with the ability to make others better.

Burnett is likely to lead a national recruitment as he should hear overtures from some of the top programs from either coast. Things are likely to move slowly with Burnett as a commitment is not expected any time soon, but it does look as if a majority of the Pac-12 programs and the programs back in his native locale should come calling.
