Bryan Hopkins Talks About His Decision

Bryan Hopkins, the ultra athletic 5-10, 185 pound point guard from Lincoln H.S. in Dallas, Tex., committed at 1:15 Central time today to SMU.
"I wanted to go to a program where I can help start something special," Hopkins said. "I felt this was my best chance to do that. I really didn't want to go to an established program. SMU has something special going on there and I wanted to be a part of it."

Hopkins said he feels he will be able to step in and make a contribution. "I think I can start right away and help them offensively," Hopkins said. "They just need a couple of more players and we can win some games."
Hopkins told us that he plans on working on several aspects of his game this year. "I want to be able to shoot the ball better with more consistency," Hopkins said. "I also want to make myself an even better ballhandler and be more quick in moving my feet on defense."
Hopkins said he also considered Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State. Georgia Tech was also involved at one stage of the recruiting process but Paul Hewitt's program was focusing on Jarrett Jack as a top priority. "I like SMU," Hopkins said. "It's going to be fun to go there."
Hopkins turned in some key performances at the Nike Peach Jam Tournament, where he helped Team Texas win the title of the prestigious invitational event. He also helped Team Texas to claim the Showcase tournament in late July at the Disney Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.
