The Iowa Hawkeyes are on a roll. After having a tremendous camp over the weekend, Steve Alford and his staff have hit it big on the recruiting trail. The Hawkeyes landed Jarryd Cole late Sunday night.
The 6-foot-7, 230-pound power forward from Winnetonka High School in Kansas City, Mo., spent the weekend in Iowa City for the Hawkeyes camp and decided he was ready to wear the black and gold in college.

"I went up there on Friday and played with their guys and got a good feel for their campus. It was great. It was everything I wanted," Cole said. "Coach Alford and coach (Craig) Neal were great. They welcomed me with open arms.
"I have always liked them and after interacting with the team and the coaches and seeing how blessed coach Alford has been because of his time in the NBA and all of his experience, I knew I couldn't go wrong. I'm looking forward to playing for him."
Cole is the second player to commit to the Big Ten school in three days. Iowa secured a verbal commitment from 7-foot sophomore center Beas Hamga on Saturday. The Hawkeyes have a formidable duo inside the paint in the class of 2007 and 2008 with Cole and Hamga.
Cole is a punishing forward that uses his big body to push players around inside the paint for points and boards. He has a bouncer's mentality on the blocks. There is a reason why he is called "The Beast" by folks in Kansas City. Cole may only stand 6-foot-7 but he has an incredible wingspan that serves his him well on the glass. Hamga is a defensive presence because of his size and attention to shot-blocking and rebounding.
Greg Brunner made a splash at Iowa because of his blue collar approach to the game and non-stop motor. Iowa is hoping to have the same kind of impact from Cole.
"That is exactly what I was looking for in a college," Cole said. "I didn't want to go to a school where it wouldn't fit me. You look at Greg Brunner and see what he did there. That is exactly what I do. He gets the job done and is so strong around the basket."
After averaging 20 points and 15 rebounds as a junior, Cole is shaping up to be a strong heir apparent to Brunner for the Hawkeyes. Cole joins Dariese Gary in Iowa's 2007 recruiting class.
Cole also considered offers from Kansas State, Minnesota, Missouri, Virginia, Nebraska and Missouri State.
