Brown making big strides

Oklahoma native Monty Brown has made big strides with his game since transferring to Lakeville (Conn.) Hotchkiss School, and coaches are taking notice.
With teammates like Jason Morris and Derrick Wilson, Brown, a 6-foot-11, 230-pound center, has had ample opportunity to play in front of numerous coaches.

"Conservatively we've had at least 40 schools in this fall, and Monty has caught the eye of at least half of them," said Hotchkiss head coach Fred Benjamin. "The coaches that saw him over the summer are taken back by how much he has improved since then. He's a definite high major prospect, especially now that he has reclassified and has two more years."
Boston College and Oklahoma are two of the schools most interested in Brown.
"Boston College and Oklahoma are really high on him," said Benjamin. "SMU liked him as a 2009 prospect. Georgia Tech is intrigued by how much he has improved. Auburn liked what they saw. Old Dominion is interested. Marquette is high on him and will make it up here soon to see him. And Stanford is incredibly high on him."
A skilled player, Brown's improvement as an athlete is the most intriguing aspect of his improvement.
"Monty is in better condition and is really getting off the ground better," said Benjamin. "He is running better also. He's long, has great hands, passes the ball well and can knock down the midrange jumper."
