Brandon Roy Slices List

Brandon Roy, the ultra athletic 6-5, 197 pound small forward/off guard from Garfield H.S. in Seattle, Wash., has pared his list to four colleges this fall.
Roy told the Insiders Report/Rivalshoops.com that Washington leads Gonzaga, Oregon and Arizona in the four team race.

"Washington is the leader," Roy said. "I've had a lot of contact with them lately, and I've been going down to campus, shooting around a lot. Plus I know a lot of the players on the team well. If I go there, maybe we can do some things."
Roy said there is a 90 to 100 percent chance that he will sign early. Of the four schools, the only one that has not offered is Arizona. They want to keep an eye on Roy's academic progress this year before offering a scholarship, he said.
"It bothers me a bit that they have not offered," Roy said. "Gonzaga is in the same shoes -- they have been to the Sweet 16. They might not be on the level of Arizona, but they are still willing to offer me a scholarship."
Roy's first (and possibly last if he signs early) official visit will be to Gonzaga, which is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of Nov. 17. The two parties have agreed on that date, although Roy conceded that the visit could be moved up to the weekend of the 10th if the Zag staff so wishes.
Roy took the ACT earlier this fall, and he will need a significant improvement on his score in order to qualify under current NCAA freshman eligibility standards. He currently holds a 2.2 GPA in the classroom. The minimum standards to qualify are a 2.5 GPA and a 17 on the ACT (a 2.2 requires a higher ACT score based on the sliding scale).
Roy enjoyed a scintillating summer with Lou Hobson's Team Yes Red program, where his above the rim athleticism and fine perimeter play drew the attention of college coaches and scouts.
Roy was dominating at the adidas Big Time Tournament, where he led Team Yes Red deep into the tournament play-offs. And that was while playing on a bum knee (torn left lateral meniscus). He had surgery on that knee in August and is expected to be ready to go by the start of the high school basketball season.
Roy averaged 19.2 points and nine rebounds per game as a junior at Garfield. He and teammate Marcelus Kemp will form one of the top high school basketball backcourts this winter.
IR will keep you posted on Roy's recruitment as the fall signing period approaches on Nov. 14, so stay tuned!
