PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley head coach Jim Molinari (right) announced 6-foot-9 Stevan Marcetic (Toronto, Ontario/Vaughn Secondary) has enrolled for classes at Bradley and has joined the team for the spring 2002 semester. Immediately eligible, Marcetic will redshirt the remainder of the season and is allowed to participate in practice and travel with the team.
Marcetic graduated from Vaughn Secondary in Toronto in November, but was ineligible to play basketball after transferring to Vaughn for his senior year from Runnymede Secondary, where he was a three-time letterwinner. Marcetic transferred after a teacher’s strike cut short his junior season at Runnymede Secondary. Transferring to Vaughn Secondary for his senior year, Marcetic was ruled ineligible because of a rule not allowing a student to transfer to schools within the same district.
“Stevan graduated early, at the semester and saw this is a good opportunity to get adjusted to the academic and athletic demands at the collegiate level,” Molinari said. “Many football programs have allowed players, who have graduated early to enroll once they have graduated, allowing the student-athletes to make an easier adjustment.”
A native of Yugoslavia, Marcetic emigrated to Canada prior to his freshman year to escape his country’s civil war. Last season Marcetic averaged 17.5 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots per game at Runnymede Secondary.
