Bracey Wright Discusses IU, Sean May

Bracey Wright, a talented 6-3, 185 pound shooting guard from The Colony H.S. in The Colony, Tex., told the Insiders Report/Rivalshoops.com that he still intends on signing with Indiana University this month.
Like many observers, Wright was caught off guard when top IU target Sean May committed to North Carolina this past weekend.

Wright shared his thoughts on that development and many others in a recent Q&A session with IR. Here is a transcript of that interview:
Insiders Report: How were you affected by the commitment of Sean May to North Carolina this past weekend?
Bracey Wright: Any time you become close with people like that, you have a whole plan and you have things that you want to accomplish, and then things don't work out, it's hard. But we'll get by it. He is going to Carolina, that's the best thing for him and his family. With or without him, I think we'll still have a real good team and have a good chance to do a lot of things.
IR: So your commitment to Indiana was unaffected by May's decision?
BW: My commitment is firm.
IR: Did you talk to Sean much throughout the recruiting process? Did you and Marshall Strickland call him on the phone?
BW: I talked to him about a week before he made his decision. It was like Thursday [Oct. 18]. After Sean made his decision, Marshall Strickland and I discussed things to see if his feelings or my feelings had changed about going to IU. We still felt pretty good about our decisions and stuck with them.
IR: At that time, did Sean tell either of you that he had committed to North Carolina?
BW: He told both of us that he felt that he was leaning toward Carolina. Marshall spoke to him that Sunday [Oct. 28], the night before he did it. He had confirmed with Marshall that was where he was going to go.
IR: Did Marshall call you at that point?
BW: Yes, he did. We just talked about that, and discussed what was going to be the best for us.
IR: Was there any shock on your part after Sean's decision? If there was one player that most analysts thought that Indiana would get in the fall, it was Sean May.
BW: It was a shock to me at first. But if IU was where he was going to go, I think he would have committed a while back. So you knew there was something going on behind that -- something that he would not tell anybody. So when it came down to it, it was not a total shock to me.
IR: Did Sean May play a big role in your decision to commit to IU?
BW: In a way he did. He had the insight on it, because he was five minutes from the campus. He played a big role in it. When it came down to it though, I chose IU for my own reasons.
IR: Have you talked with Indiana Head Coach Mike Davis since Sean committed to UNC?
BW: I talked to him a few days after, and we had a good conversation. Everything went well.
IR: What was his reaction to you regarding Sean's decision?
BW: He was shocked, in a way. But he said everything happens for a reason. Whatever the reason might be, he said it will all work out for the best. And I trust him on that. It was good for me to hear.
IR: So are you going to sign with IU on the 14th.
BW: Yes, I should.
IR: Are you going to have a press conference on that date where you and your high school teammates [Deron Williams/Illinois; Bamfield Harmon/Rhode Island] will sign?
BW: Yes we are.
