Bonnies Offer OConnell Point Guard

On a high school team loaded with stars like 6-foot-8 rising senior Brian Johnson and 6-foot-5 rising junior Marcus Ginyard, it's easy to overlook a steady player like Erik Smith.
But Smith, the shifty 5-foot-10, 160-pound point guard from Bishop O'Connell H.S. in Arlington, Va., has shown on the AAU circuit that he is a fine player in his own right.

RivalsHoops.com had a chance to watch Smith last fall at the Charlie Weber Tournament with the D.C. Stars and this past weekend at the Five-Star Hoop Classic with Boo Williams.
Blessed with good quickness and the ability to get an offense into gear, Smith can knock down the open shot and excels at hitting the short pull up jumper in the lane.
Smith said he has been offered a scholarship by St. Bonaventure, where former O'Connell teammate and combo guard Ahmad Smith (no relation) just completed his freshman year. Others looking early include George Mason, Richmond, Yale, Penn and Miami (OH).
As a junior at O'Connell, Smith averaged 11.7 points, three rebounds and seven assists per game.
On top of the basketball, Smith carries a 3.1 GPA and scored a 1310 on the SAT.
He plans on traveling this spring and summer with the Boo Williams team, and RivalsHoops.com will be at a number of events in the coming weeks where Smith will play. We'll keep you posted on his progress. Stay tuned.
