Bennie Boatwright had seen enough. Shortly after an unofficial visit to
USC to watch practice, the Sun Valley (Calif.) Village Christian forward told his father he was ready to commit to the Trojans.
"My dad, my little brother and I went up to the school and saw them practice and after that we talked," Boatwright said. "We were walking to the car and I was like
'I've decided to commit' so we went back in and told the coaches."
According to Boatwright, Trojans head coach Andy Enfield had an interesting reaction to his commitment.
"He said something like .'I'm so excited I'm going to go jump in the ocean,' something like that," Boatwright recalled. They were really excited and I was really excited too."
The four-star 6-foot-8 combo forward chose USC over Washington, Connecticut,
Gonzaga and UCLA.
"I felt real comfortable from the start with coach Enfield," said Boatwright. "I've also known (Trojans assistant)
coach Jason Hart ever since eighth grade. He came to a park to watch me when he was the coach at Taft High School. We had a real good relationship with him, I felt comfortable with the school and the players there."
Living less than 45 minutes from campus, Boatwright has been to USC to take in a few basketball games and is working with the coaches to schedule his official visit.
"We're probably going to the SC-Arizona State game on October 4th," he said.
Boatwright is a combo forward that is a great shooter and plays with good energy. He is the second member of USC's 2015 class, joining Chimezie Metu.
